HISTORY
With the inception of the College in 1973, History was rightly introduced as one of the academic departments.
Faculty Strength: 4
Uniqueness of the department:
- Gifted learners are advised and supported to prepare themselves for competitive and higher academic exams.
- Financial Support is also given to the outstanding students who belong to the economically weaker family.
- The Department encourages co-curricular and extra-curricular activities in and off the campus for advanced learners by sending them to compete at competitions such as quizzes, debates and cultural events at the National, the State and the District level.
- The department utilizes different teaching aids so as to benefit students in their learning skills. The use of teaching aids such as maps, charts and videos provides learners with visual stimulation and opportunity to access the contents from a different point.
- In order to illustrate or reinforce a skill, fact ideas as well as to relieve fears or boredom, some teachers also take classes outside the classrooms in a different environment to ignite creativity and clarify subject matters more easily.
SWOC ANALYSIS:
Strengths:
- Curriculum Suitability: The curriculum is well-suited for students aiming to pursue both academic and competitive careers, providing a solid foundation for various future endeavors.
- Scope for Contribution: The curriculum and subject matter offer ample scope for teachers and students to contribute towards the advancement of national, regional, and local historical studies.
Weaknesses:
- Faculty Shortage: Due to a shortage of teaching faculty, teachers are unable to engage themselves extensively in research activities, which impacts the department’s academic output and faculty development.
Opportunities:
- Proximity to Historical Sites: The abundance of historical places within the district and state allows for frequent educational trips without high expenditures, enriching the learning experience.
- Contributions to History: The proximity to historically significant sites provides opportunities for faculty and students to make significant contributions in the field of history through research and field studies.
- Student Motivation: There is an opportunity to inspire and motivate students to excel in their academic performances and help them achieve their academic goals and objectives.
- Partnerships and Collaborations: Developing partnerships and collaborations with local and national historical societies and organizations can enhance research and educational opportunities for the department.
Challenges:
- Feeder Institution Shortage: The shortage of reliable feeder institutions in the district affects the quality and quantity of students entering the program.
- Institutional Competition: Competition from institutions in the state's capital, which offer a supposedly better environment and more qualified teachers, poses a challenge to attracting top students.
- Funding Constraints: Limited funding and budget constraints affect the department's ability to expand its resources and hinders research activities.
- Technological Adaptation: Adapting to changing educational technologies and methodologies is necessary to stay relevant and engaging for students.
