UNIQUENESS OF THE DEPARTMENT
The uniqueness of the department is summarized as under:
Multidisciplinary Approach
Political science department embraces an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on insights from fields such as history, sociology, economics, philosophy, psychology, and law. This multidisciplinary perspective enriches the study of politics, offering students a broader understanding of political phenomena and their social, economic, and cultural contexts.
Diverse Specializations
A wide range of specializations or subfields, such as comparative politics, international relations, political theory, public policy, political economy, and more is offered.. This diversity allows students to explore specific areas of interest and develop expertise in particular topics or regions.
Career Development Resources
The Political Science department offers students career development resources such as academic advising and mentoring. Notably, the Head of Department serves as the coordinator of the Career Guidance and Counseling Cell within the institution, providing additional support and guidance to students.
STRENGTH, WEAKNESS, OPPORTUNITIES & CHALLENGES (SWOC) analysis
Strength:
1) The curriculum provided a great opportunity for students aspiring to pursue both academic and competitive careers after their graduation
2) There is a great scope for research both for the students and the teachers in all spheres of local, state and national politics, governance and administration
Weakness:
1) The department is under-staffed with only two regular teaching staffs (one on medical leave) apart from one contractual faculty and one part-time faculty. Hence, teacher-student ratio is quite disproportionate
2) With more and more students opting for the subject each year, the workload is increasing gradually for the teachers due to shortage of teaching faculty
Opportunities:
1) Great opportunity for research and identify problems and prospects of local and state level politics, governance and administration
2) The curriculum as well as the subject itself provided ample scope for teachers and students to contribute towards the advancement of national, regional and local historical studies.
Challenges:
1) To imbibe and instil in the students the theoretical, empirical and practical aspects and application of the discipline
2) To inspire and motivate students to excel in their academic performances and to help them achieve their academic goals and objectives
