WORLD WILDLIFE DAY 2026

On 3rd March 2026, World Wildlife Day 2026 was observed with great enthusiasm and active participation by the Departments of Zoology and Botany, the NSS Unit, and the Wildlife Protection Club of Government Serchhip College.

The programme was chaired by Ms. Melody Vanlalhmangaihzuali, Secretary of the Wildlife Protection Club. In her inaugural address, she highlighted the global significance of World Wildlife Day and emphasized the urgent need for collective responsibility in conserving biodiversity and protecting natural resources. She encouraged students to actively participate in wildlife conservation initiatives and to spread environmental awareness within the college and the wider community.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. C. Vanlalnghaka, Programme Officer of the NSS Unit and Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology. In his insightful talk based on the 2026 theme, he elaborated on the importance of wildlife conservation in maintaining ecological balance, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and preserving the rich natural heritage of the region. He stressed the need to protect endangered species, conserve natural habitats, and promote the sustainable use of biological resources. He also urged students to cultivate scientific awareness and adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.

The programme witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers. A total of 40 participants attended the event, including 16 female volunteers and 18 male volunteers, along with three Programme Officers and faculty members. Various activities such as awareness talks and interactive discussions were organized to mark the occasion, fostering a deeper understanding of biodiversity conservation and environmental stewardship among the participants.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Amos Lalruatkima, Leader of the Wildlife Protection Club, who expressed sincere gratitude to the chairperson, the keynote speaker, faculty members, NSS volunteers, students, and the organizing committee for their cooperation and collective efforts in making the programme a success.

The observance of World Wildlife Day 2026 served as a meaningful platform to reinforce the message of conservation and to inspire young minds to actively contribute towards the protection and sustainable management of wildlife and natural ecosystems.
