WORLD WETLANDS DAY OBSERVED BY DEPT OF BOTANY & ECO CLUB

On 2nd February 2026, the Eco Club of Govt Serchhip College in collaboration with the Department of Botany organized a programme at Venue C001 to observe World Wetlands Day 2026 with the theme “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.” The programme aimed to raise awareness among students about the importance of wetlands and their role in environmental sustainability. The event began with a brief address by the Eco Club teacher-in-charge, Miss Malsawmtluangi, who highlighted the significance of World Wetlands Day and the need for wetland conservation. This was followed by a video presentation showcasing real-life examples of wetland degradation and successful conservation efforts in India. A pledge focusing on environmental protection, conservation of natural resources, avoidance of pollution, and spreading awareness was administered by the club secretary, Hmingthansangi, 6th Semester BA, which all participants took with sincerity. The programme was informative and meaningful, effectively emphasizing the importance of protecting wetlands for ecological balance and future generations, and concluded with a vote of thanks to all who contributed to its success.
