WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY OBSERVED AT GSC

World Environment Day 2026 was observed on 5 June 2026 (Friday) at Government Serchhip College, Serchhip, Mizoram. The programme was jointly organized by the NSS Unit, Eco-Club, and Wildlife Protection Club with the objective of promoting environmental awareness, cleanliness, and responsible citizenship among students and staff.

The programme commenced with a brief inaugural session highlighting the significance of World Environment Day and the need for collective action to protect the environment. The Programme Officers encouraged the participants to adopt environmentally friendly practices in their daily lives and contribute towards maintaining a clean and healthy campus and community.

As part of the observance, a Cleanliness Drive was conducted within the college campus and its surrounding areas. Volunteers actively participated in cleaning pathways, removing litter, collecting plastic waste, and beautifying the campus environment. The activity helped create awareness about proper waste management and the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public places.

Following the cleanliness drive, a Pledge Reading Ceremony was organized. All participants solemnly pledged to protect the environment, reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and promote sustainable practices. The pledge emphasized individual and collective responsibility in safeguarding nature for future generations.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. A total of 52 participants took part in the event, comprising 21 female students, 28 male students, and 3 Programme Officers. The active involvement of the volunteers reflected their commitment towards environmental conservation and community service.

The observance concluded with a vote of thanks, appreciating the efforts of all participants and organizers. The programme successfully enhanced environmental awareness among students and reinforced the importance of cleanliness, conservation, and sustainable living.
