To observe World Lung Cancer Day 2025, the NSS Unit and Department of Zoology, Government Serchhip College organized a one-day seminar aimed at raising awareness about lung cancer, its causes, prevention, and the importance of early diagnosis. The seminar was chaired by Dr. C. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. Beihrosa, Head of Department, Department of Zoology and also a Programme Officer of the NSS unit. His presentation provided an in-depth overview of lung cancer, covering the following key aspects:
•    Causes and major risk factors (especially smoking and environmental pollution)

•    Preventive measures and the role of lifestyle choices
•    Role of awareness and early detection in improving survival rates
His informative and engaging session was well-received and followed by a Q&A session where students actively participated and raised relevant concerns. The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from a total of 200 NSS volunteers, which included 98 male students and 102 female students. In addition to the student volunteers, four NSS Programme Officers from various units of the college also attended the seminar and contributed to the smooth conduct of the event.
The programme successfully fulfilled its objective of sensitizing students to the global health burden of lung cancer and their role in spreading awareness. The interactive and educational nature of the seminar encouraged participants to act as health ambassadors in their communities.
The NSS Unit expressed sincere appreciation to all the participants, resource persons, and organizers who contributed to making the event a success. The Programme Officers also highlighted the importance of conducting similar health-related awareness programmes in the future.
