ONE DAY NATIONAL SEMINAR BY DEPT OF ZOOLOGY

On 27th February 2026, a One-Day National Seminar was successfully organized by the Department of Zoology in collaboration with the NSS Unit, Govt. Serchhip College. The seminar aimed to enhance academic knowledge and create awareness among students and faculty members on contemporary issues in wildlife conservation and management.

The programme featured two distinguished resource persons: Mr. Ratnesh Karjee, Ph.D. Scholar at Ashoka University, and Dr. D. Pilot Dovih, Post-Doctoral Fellow from Ashoka University, Haryana. Mr. Karjee delivered a comprehensive lecture on “Conservation and Management of Wildlife through Remote Sensing Studies,” highlighting the application of modern tools such as GIS, satellite imagery, and spatial analysis in wildlife monitoring, habitat mapping, and biodiversity assessment. Dr. D. Pilot Dovih presented an engaging talk on “Conservation of Bat Fauna,” emphasizing the ecological importance of bats in pollination, seed dispersal, and insect population control, as well as the need for their protection and habitat conservation.

The seminar was chaired by Dr. C. Vanlalnghaka, Programme Officer, NSS Unit and Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, who encouraged students to actively engage in research and conservation initiatives. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. S. Beihrosa, Head of the Department of Zoology, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, organizers, and participants for their valuable contributions.

A total of 35 NSS volunteers (20 female and 15 male), along with two NSS Programme Officers and faculty members, actively participated in the seminar. The event provided an excellent platform for academic interaction, knowledge exchange, and motivation for students to pursue research in wildlife conservation and environmental management.
