Observance of International Girl Child Day 2024 at Government Serchhip College:
The Government Serchhip College (GSC) commemorated the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, 2024, with a theme, "Girls' Vision for the Future," at Block B 101. This momentous event was jointly organized by the NSS Unit, Women Development Cell, and the District Health and Education Welfare (DHEW), Serchhip District, Women & Child Development.
Under the chairpersonship of H. Lalchhanhima, NSS Programme Officer, GSC, the program featured an inspiring keynote address by Lalmalsawmi, Member, Women Development Cell (WDC), GSC. The speech underscored the paramount importance of empowering girls to sculpt a brighter future.
The ceremony recognized outstanding girl students, with Dr. Lalhmangaihzuali Ralte, NSS PO, GSC, leading the felicitation. Three exceptional students were honored for their exemplary achievements during the 2023-2024 academic session:
* Malsawmdawngkimi, 5th Semester BSc, Department of Botany for her altruistic donation of 4 units of blood
- Vanlalzawni, 5th Semester BA, Department of Education for her outstanding performances in co-curricular activities
- Hualthanpuii, 3rd Semester BA, Department of Political Science for her remarkable sportsmanship
These felicitated girls shared their captivating stories and inspirational speeches, leaving a lasting impact on the audience.
C. Malsawmzeli, Manager, MRB Serchhip, delivered an enlightening Financial Literacy session. The resource person elucidated the benefits offered by banks, with a special focus on savings, insurance, and mutual funds.
The event also featured the distribution of prizes for the Article Writing Competition in observance of International Girl Child Day on the theme 'Girld Child: A key to tomorrow' sponsored by DHEW, Serchhip District, Women & Child Development by V. Lalruatsangi, Specialist in Financial Literacy, DHEW. The winners were:
- 1st Prize: Vanlalzawni, 5th Semester BA, Department of Education
- 2nd Prize: Vansangpuii Sailo, 3rd Semester BSc, Department of Botany
- 3rd Prize: Ramnunsangi, 1st Semester BSc, Department of Mathematics
The 5th Semester female students ensured an enthusiastic participation. This program successfully achieved its objectives of empowering girl students, enhancing financial literacy, and recognizing outstanding achievements. Dr. Rebecca Lalmuanpuii, Member, WDC, GSC, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks.
