NER Trekking Expedition Camp III Report: Shillong, Meghalaya

The NCC Shillong Trekking Expedition 2024 took place from October 15 to October 22, providing an opportunity for cadets to develop teamwork, leadership, and environmental awareness skills.
The cadets from NCC Air Wing Govt. Serchhip College began their journey on 14th of October, 2024. The designated site i.e 101 Army Public School was reached safely at 6:00 am (15 October) along the group i.e Silchar group.
The NER Trekking Camp III was organized under the outset of the respective Camp Commandant, Colonel Vishal Madhok and the ADG of the NER Directorate.
The cadets were divided into three groups on the arrival day after the heroes of the military family.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival and Acclimatization
- Arrive at Shillong at 101 Army Public School, Assam Rifles
- Check-in at designated campsite i.e
- Acclimatization and orientation
- Group separation:
a) Pa Togan Sangma grp. - Green group
b) Kiang Nangbah grp. - White group
c) Tirot Singh grp. - Orange group.
Day 2:
- Trek to Rhododendron forest (6 km, 3 hours) on foot by the white group, Shillong peak (16 km) by orange group and the War Memorial and Assam Rifles Museum by the green group.
- Cadets participating in the UAC demonstration.
Day 3:
* Cadets from St. Anthony's College conducted the Yuva Bhagidaari Program, programs include presentation on drug awareness, quiz and inspiring skit.
Evening program: Painting competition for interesting cadets and sports for the remaining cadets.
Day 4:
The Green house trekked to Shillong Peak, Orange group to the Rhododendron Trek and the White group visited the War Memorial and the Assam Rifles Museum.
The evening was wrapped up with female health related issues by Dr. Niveda Malik and her team.
Day 5 :
* Tug of war competition was conducted from morning(6:00 am).
* Afternoon program : UAC demonstration and practice session.
* Personal Development Program session held at David Hall.
Day 6 :
* Remarkable sites like Ward's Lake, Hydari Park, City Centre are visited.
* Cadets are escorted to the Police bazaar for shopping.
Day 7:
* The Green group trekked to the Rhododendron trek, the White group trekked to Shillong peak and the Orange group visited the War Memorial and the Assam Rifles Museum.
* Closing function:

Cultural choir
Solo etc
The ADG and Camp Commandant give inspiring speeches.
Day 8:
* Departing Day: Departure at 9:15 am ( 22 October).
* The camp certificate along with the batch of NER trekking camp was distributed.
Conclusion:
The 8-day NCC trekking expedition in Shillong aims to provide a challenging and enriching experience for participants. The trekking routes offer breathtaking views, diverse flora and fauna, and opportunities for team building and leadership development.
