NATIONAL BIRD MONITORING WORKSHOP AT GSC


Date: 14th October 2025
Venue: Govt. Serchhip College

The National Bird Monitoring Workshop was successfully conducted on 14th October 2025 as a joint initiative of Govt. Serchhip College (NSS, Eco Club, Wildlife Protection Club,Department of Zoology and Political Science), Bird Count India, and eBird India.

The workshop began early in the morning at 6:00 AM with a birdwatching and sensitization session focusing on the use of the Merlin and iNaturalist apps. Students, faculty members, and representatives from Bird Count India participated enthusiastically. The birdwatching trail started from *Khawtetlang Field and continued towards the college campus, during which around 15 species of birds were identified and recorded.

The second session commenced at 11:00 AM in Block B-201, beginning with a welcome address by the Principal. The session featured insightful talks from invited speakers —Mittal Gala, Project Manager for Bird Count India,Jignasa Patel,Program Manager,  Nature Communications, Samakshi Tiwari, Project Coordinator, Bird Monitoring Team, Christopher JZ Lawlor
Associate Professor, Dept of Zoology, Govt. Kolasib College and Mr Joe R.Z Thanga, Birder who shared their knowledge and experiences on bird conservation and monitoring practices.

The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. S. Beihrosa, NSS Programme Officer. The event was attended by 62 students and proved to be highly engaging, informative, and fruitful.
