GSC PARTICIPATES IN THE INTENSIFIED IEC CAMPAIGN INDIA FIGHT AGAINST AIDS/HIV & STI

Students from Government Serchhip College actively participated in the two-day Intensified IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) Campaign on "India fight against HIV/AIDS and STIs, held on September 12th and 13th, 2024. The campaign kicked off on 12th morning with a rally that began at 10 AM, where both students and teachers from our institution enthusiastically took part.

On the first day of the campaign, 20 students participated in a poster-making competition, where two of our students, Aldrin Lalnunpuia 1st semester BA and Lalruattluangi, 1st semester BA, excelled—securing the first and second prizes, respectively. Additionally, Vanlaltanpuii, another 1st semester BA student, graced the event with a beautiful musical performance.
The second day saw our college dance club shine as they participated in a musical drama competition, achieving third place among a host of talented participants. Vanlalthlamuanpuii, a 1st semester BSc student, also delivered a beautiful song performance during the day's program.

The afternoon events continued with a series of debate competitions, divided into various categories. Our college's debate team, comprising 1) Maria Zomuanpuii, 2) Vanlalengfiaha, 3) Lalruatpuia, and 4) Vanramnghaki, showcased their oratory skills and critical thinking, securing second place as the opposition side in a debate on the motion: "Condom promotion only encourages adultery and early sexual debut among the youth rather than preventing STI/HIV transmission." Lalruatpuia was honored with the prestigious Best Debater Award.

In addition to these competitions, three of our college's clubs—the National Service Scheme (NSS), the Red Ribbon Club, and the Drug Awareness Club—set up informative and impactful stalls. These stalls served to raise awareness on several critical issues: the importance of understanding HIV/AIDS, the correct usage of condoms, and the harmful effects of drug abuse. The Red Ribbon Club and Drug Awareness Club further engaged the community through a signature campaign at their stalls, where numerous visitors, both young and old, pledged to support the fight against HIV and commit to a drug-free lifestyle.

This successful event was organized by MSACS (Mizoram State AIDS Control Society), Serchhip branch, which attracted a large number of participants, particularly children and youth, through its diverse competitions and awareness activities. The college administration is proud of the students' active involvement in both raising awareness and showcasing their talents. We greatly appreciate the opportunities created by MSACS and look forward to participating in future events.
