FINISHING SCHOOL DAY 4

Day 4: 30th May 2025
The final day of the Finishing School Workshop at Government Serchhip College brought together all participants for a well-rounded conclusion, with a focus on creative expression, vocational skills, and career guidance.

The morning session featured a combined theory and practical class on Videography and Editing, attended by all students. The session was led by Dr. Reuben Lalmalsawma, a professional videographer and photographer from Zothlir Production. He introduced essential concepts such as camera handling, lighting, framing, storytelling, and basic editing techniques. The session aimed to ignite students’ interest in digital media as both a creative pursuit and a potential career path.

In the afternoon, students were divided into three practical groups for hands-on training:

Group 1: Excel Skills – Continued their training under Mr. Vanladingngheta Varte, focusing on spreadsheet tasks, formulas, and data visualization techniques.

Group 2: Mushroom Cultivation – A newly introduced session, led by Dr. Lalremsiami Hrahsel, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, GSC. Students were taught the fundamentals of cultivating oyster mushrooms, including ideal conditions, substrate preparation, and the potential of mushroom farming as a viable small-scale agri-business.

Group 3: Videography and Editing – Applied the morning’s theoretical learning in practical exercises under the guidance of Dr. Reuben Lalmalsawma. As part of the session, students submitted photographs they had taken, and three prizes were awarded to the best entries by Dr. Reuben.

Following the training, students reconvened for two awareness talks:

Awareness Program on IGNOU – Delivered by Dr. Zarzosanga, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, the session highlighted the flexible learning opportunities available through IGNOU, especially beneficial for students wishing to pursue further education while working.

Skill Development and Placement Opportunities – Conducted by Mr. R. Lalfamkima, Skill Development Consultant, the session provided valuable insights into various skill enhancement platforms, government-sponsored initiatives, and resources available to improve employability.

The day concluded with a Closing Function and Feedback Session, led by Dr. Rebecca Lalmuanpuii, Coordinator of the Finishing School. The Principal, Mr. C. Laldintluanga, and Mrs. Jeanie Lalthanpari also addressed the gathering with words of encouragement and appreciation. A vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Vanlalhruaizeli, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, organizers, and students for their active participation.

Feedback was collected via a Google Form, and Mr. Job Lalremdika, one of the students, came forward to share an oral feedback on behalf of the participants.

The college extends its heartfelt gratitude to DHEW Serchhip, Women and Child Development Department for generously sponsoring the program and making it a success.
