Sites Visited

1. Office of the District Agriculture Officer (DAO)
The first stop was at the DAO office, where students were given the opportunity to learn about departmental functions, machinery, and agricultural equipment. A formal introduction session was held between the officer, faculty members, and students.

2. Mini Dal Mill
The dal mill, as explained by the guide, processes dried pulses such as lentils into edible dal by removing husks and outer layers.

3. Polyhouse
The polyhouse serves as a facility for germinating seedlings, which are later sold or displayed at events such as Green Mizoram. The activities are carried out in line with agroforestry guidelines.

4. Rainfall Data Collector
This facility consists of a tall iron structure fitted with a rain gauge for the measurement of rainfall in the region. It is issued and installed by the Indian Meteorological Department.

5. Cold Storage
A cold storage unit with a capacity of 5 MT (metric tons) is located near the DAO office. However, it is currently non-functional due to technical difficulties.

6. Mini Oil Expeller Unit
The unit is used to extract oil from seeds such as sesame, mustard, groundnut, and soybean. Two machines are employed for pressing the oil, and packaged oil samples were displayed within the building.

7. Mini Composite Feed Mill
This facility produces animal feed for pigs and poultry. Machines are used to shell corn and grind it into smaller pieces, with added minerals and vitamins to enhance nutritional value.

8. Office of the Project Director, Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA)
The visit concluded at the ATMA office, where students received a warm welcome and lunch. The Project Director provided a comprehensive overview of the office’s functions and management practices.

The exposure visit proved to be both informative and enriching. It effectively fulfilled its objective of complementing classroom learning with practical exposure. Such visits are essential for the holistic development of students, as they not only broaden academic knowledge but also foster critical thinking and innovative approaches to learning. Organizing programs of this nature greatly contributes to shaping students’ educational vision and professional growth.
