EARTHQUAKE MOCK DRILL

Report on Earthquake Mock Drill
Organised by: NSS Unit, Government Serchhip College & NDRF, Guwahati
Date: 25.2.2026
Venue: Government Serchhip College
Total Participants: 402 Volunteers
An Earthquake Mock Drill was successfully organised at Government Serchhip College by the NSS Unit in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Guwahati. The programme aimed to create awareness about disaster preparedness and to train students and staff on appropriate safety measures during earthquake emergencies.
A total of 402 NSS volunteers actively participated in the drill, including 192 female and 210 male volunteers, along with the Programme Officers. The large turnout reflected the enthusiasm and commitment of the students toward disaster management and community safety initiatives.
The mock drill began with an introductory session conducted by NDRF officials, who explained the basic causes of earthquakes, safety precautions, and emergency response techniques. The resource persons demonstrated important life-saving procedures such as:
•    “Drop, Cover, and Hold” technique during tremors
•    Safe evacuation methods from classrooms and buildings
•    First aid procedures for injured victims
•    Proper use of stretchers and emergency rescue equipment
•    Fire safety measures and coordination during rescue operations
Following the theoretical briefing, a simulated earthquake scenario was enacted on the college campus. Volunteers were guided to evacuate the buildings in an orderly manner and assemble at designated safe zones. Rescue teams demonstrated how to search for trapped victims, provide immediate first aid, and transport injured individuals safely.
The programme was conducted in coordination with various district authorities. District Administrative Officers, Information Officers, personnel from the Police Department, Fire Department, Border Security Force (BSF), and Assam Rifles also actively participated and extended their full support. Their presence strengthened inter-departmental coordination and highlighted the importance of teamwork during disaster response operations.
The drill significantly enhanced awareness among students and staff regarding emergency preparedness. It provided practical exposure to disaster response strategies and emphasized the importance of staying calm, acting quickly, and following safety protocols during natural calamities.
The programme concluded with a feedback session where officials appreciated the discipline and cooperation of the volunteers. The organisers expressed gratitude to NDRF and all participating departments for their valuable support in making the mock drill a meaningful and educational experience.
