AWARENESS SEMINAR ON CYBER CRIME AND ITS LEGAL CONSEQUENCES

Report on Awareness Seminar on Cyber Crime and Its Legal Consequences: Awareness for Young People

An awareness seminar on “Cyber Crime and Its Legal Consequences: Awareness for Young People” was held on 5th March 2026 at 11:50 AM in Room B201, Academic Block, Government Serchhip College. The programme was organized by the District Legal Services Authority, Serchhip in collaboration with the Legal Literacy Club and the Department of Computer Science, Government Serchhip College.

The programme was chaired by Mrs. Lalmalsawmi, Teacher-in-Charge of the Legal Literacy Club. In her opening remarks, she highlighted the growing use of digital platforms among young people and emphasized the importance of being aware of cyber crimes and the legal consequences associated with them. She encouraged students to use the internet responsibly and to remain vigilant against online threats.

The resource person for the seminar was Dr. Samuel Lalmuanawma, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science. In his informative session, he explained various forms of cyber crime such as online fraud, identity theft, cyberbullying, hacking, and misuse of social media. He also discussed how young people can unknowingly become victims or even perpetrators of cyber offences due to a lack of awareness.

The seminar was both informative and engaging, helping students gain a clearer understanding of cyber safety and the legal consequences associated with online activities.

A quiz was conducted at the end of the session, in which students actively participated. Lalruatmawia, 4th Semester BA, was recognized and awarded as the Top Quiz Performer.

Overall, the seminar served as an important platform to educate young people about cyber crime, promote responsible use of technology, and create awareness about legal protections and consequences in the digital world.
